Without further ado: This past summer we did a number of Mars Review x Patricia Swim shoots. This was a collab with the talented designer Patricia Torvalds. This started when Sports Illustrated folded and I thought the MRB should take over swimsuit editions. But then we had fun with the shoots, and people seemed to like them, so I think we’ll do more. We’re just all busy. Anyway, we were doing a shoot at Sov House with a very cool model, and then Lord Miles showed up. He was doing an event later. So I figured we had combine forces somehow. The photo we got is something that no one has ever seen before. Offensive to good taste? Possibly. I don’t think so, but we’ll let you decide…

All Fours by Miranda July

Why did you choose it?

Even though I’m a big fan of Miranda July’s, I never read contemporary as a rule (too many classics still jamming up my list) but my best friend with the best taste in literature and all things said it was time to get a move on and read this book so I did. At first, I didn’t like it because it was too personal. It felt like looking into a magnifying mirror and seeing all of my pores, but when I came to the shoot today and saw someone else brought Miranda too it shocked me into the realization that maybe this book wasn’t written just for me but for everyone? And isn’t that why we make anything? To bare our egos and see if anyone recognizes us? Not to mention it’s comforting to know that maybe, if we feel pretty and are honest and funny enough, just maybe a mess of a woman in this world really can have it all.
