First off, I’m seeing a lot of new Mars Review subscribers. Welcome. To get oriented, just head to the home page, and browse the sections Issue 1–Issue 5. You’ll find a few pieces from each issue, including

Tao Lin
’s landmark piece on autism from Issue 2 and Carlos Dengler’s piece from Issue 1 on pop music and growing up in the clubs. To read paywalled articles and get exclusive offers on events etc., become a paid subscriber at the button below.

Speaking of events, time is running out to get early bird tickets to the Mars Review of Books White Party. Promotion ends July 20, 11:59 PM. So buy now. The early bird discount can get you up to $200 off depending on your ticket purchase and code. Anyone reading this can use code BELY246 to get 10% off. Paid subscribers can scroll to the end of this email to get the code for 20% off.

Why did I title this email “I need you?” Well, it’s a funny thing. When I started the Mars Review, there were some people who doubted that I could make a high-brow magazine work. They were right. The Mars Review doesn’t work as just a magazine; it works as something a little bit bigger than that, and harder to define.

One absolutely crucial element of what makes it work is our events. I get way more compliments on them than I ever thought I would. Maybe one thing that makes them work is that at the MRB we’ve got very catholic (little c) tastes. I’m not going to do a cloutfarm flier for the party with everyone’s names on it, but I can tell you that the attendees constitute a who’s who list of writers, directors, artists, founders, and investors—and just overall interesting people. I think if you don’t get a ticket, you’ll regret it. Just one man’s opinion, and I’m biased of course.

But the point is, a great event isn’t something I make happen. That’s you. That’s why I need you. So grab your tickets HERE.

Also, if you’re in New York City tonight, I’m reading poetry with Ariana Reines and Daniel (

dc
) Miller—two lovely, intelligent, admirable writers. Should be fun. Drop by. Details here.
